Coaches often look for exercises that are versatile and easy to set up. The double square fulfills these requirements and is extremely versatile. It is particularly suitable as a complex passing and combination exercise during the warm-up.
The following 3 exercises were taken from the new eBook “Tiqui Taca – One Touch – 45 Variations in the Double Square” from Peter Schreiner!
Double Square – Dribbling to the Start
ORGANIZATION / STRUCTURE
10 to 16 players. Set up the outer square (25-30m) and inner square (8-10m) as shown in the
diagram, start at two diagonal corners with a maximum of 4 players, 1 ball per player at the
start plus replacement balls.
SEQUENCE
- At two diagonal corners, players A start simultaneously with a sharp diagonal pass to the inner square.
- B drops the ball on C.
- C diagonally passes to D.
- D takes the ball to the side and dribbles to the starting point on the other side.
- Change positions: Each player runs after his own ball
Double Square – Wall Pass C with D
ORGANIZATION / STRUCTURE
Set up outer square (25-30m) and inner square (8-10m) as shown in the diagram, start at two diagonal corners, which are double/triple, 2 (4) balls plus spare balls at the starting cones.
SEQUENCE
- At two diagonal corners, players A start simultaneously with a sharp diagonal pass to the inner square.
- B drops the ball on C.
- C diagonally passes to D.
- D drops the ball on C.
- C plays into D’s run.
- D passes the ball to the starting point on the other side. (Variation: Dribbling)
- Change positions: Each player runs after his own ball.
Double Square with Shot on Goal
ORGANIZATION / STRUCTURE
Set up the outer square (25-30m) and inner square (8-10m) as shown in the diagram, set up 1 large goal with a goalkeeper, start at two diagonal corners, which are at least double (triple) occupied, place enough balls at the starting cones.
SEQUENCE
- At two diagonal corners, players A start at the same time with a pass to B.
- B passes to C.
- C diagonally passes to D.
- On the goal side D controls the ball with 2 contacts and dribbles towards the goal, shoots at the goal, and runs towards the start. The goalkeeper rolls the ball to D, which dribbles to the start.
- On the other side, players D, E and F play a “diagonal-drop-diagonal” with dribbling to the start on the goal side.
