1v1 Competition – Dribbling or Shooting into the Mini Goal

Players seek competition with teammates and want to test themselves. This is especially true for duels that end with a shot on goal.

This drill focuses on 1v1 situations with two options. The attacker can either pass into the mini goal or dribble past the defender over the dribbling line. A point system can be used to favor one of the two solutions. For example, a shot into the mini goal could be worth 3 points and dribbling past the dribbling goal worth 1 point—or vice versa.

1v1 Passing Goal or Dribbling to the Right

Setup:

Create a rectangle (22m deep – 18m wide) with a passing goal and a dribbling goal on the end lines. The attackers wait to receive the pass from midfield, and the defenders start from the end line.

Procedure:

  • A passes to B, while C simultaneously starts toward B, initiating a 1v1.
  • B dribbles toward C and has two options:
    • Dribble past C and through the dribbling goal
    • Shoot into the passing goal
  • If C wins the ball, he counters to the opposite side. No further transition phase follows.
  • Players rotate: A becomes B, B becomes C, and C becomes A.

Coaching:

This game format simulates a 1v1 situation with one passing option covered.

  • C should adjust his position to provoke B into using the dribbling goal, creating a chance to win the ball.
  • B should use clever fakes to beat C in the 1v1—either shooting into the passing goal or dribbling past him.
