This training exercise combines three key elements of modern soccer: precise passing, explosive sprints, and the excitement of competition. It’s ideal from the U11 age group onwards and brings fun, speed, and intensity to any session – here demonstrated with a women’s soccer team.
Why this combination is so valuable:
- Passing: Improves accuracy and technique, even under time and opponent pressure.
- Sprint: Increases explosiveness and the ability to quickly occupy free spaces.
- Competition: Boosts motivation and focus – players automatically give more effort.

It’s a competition between two groups, aiming to play as many passes as possible through a cone gate. This requires a quick switch of sides – ideally with a sprint – and two precise passes.
- The first red player B runs around the first cone and receives a pass from player B, which he immediately returns.
- He then sprints around the middle cone to the other side and receives a second pass, also returned directly.
- The same sequence is then repeated from the opposite side back.
- Who can score the most passes through the two gates on the left and right?
- Tip: When sprinting from left to right, it’s best to pass with the left foot; from right to left, use the right foot.
- The players who switch sides the fastest while still passing accurately to their partner win the competition.
